APRIL Kiln-Building Course

Service Description

Come and be part of our team to build a new wood-fired train kiln at Wytham. This is a unique opportunity to work alongside an internationally known kiln-builder, wood firer, and ceramicist Claude Aussage to build our new kiln. An excellent opportunity to gain kiln building experience and to learn about the differences between wood firing kilns as you compare our new kiln to the other three types of woodfiring kiln we have on site. You will be involved in this live build of the kiln: foundations, Bourry box firebox, chamber, arch, chimney. You will work alongside Claude through the process, with space for serious discussion about draft, combustion, firing logic and woodfiring practice. The complete kiln building process will take three weeks so we have endeavoured to offer a flexible system whereby you can choose the dates and the time period you wish to attend. Participation: • 1 week – £850 • 2 weeks – £1,400 • 3 weeks – £1,800 • Day participation – £225 (minimum two consecutive days) You can select your preferred option when you are booking and let us know the dates you wish to attend. Please do let us know if you have any questions or would like to discuss your options with us. There is free camping on site. For non-campers there is the possibility of booking accommodation nearby, details of which can be provided.
